Physical Education
All students across the year levels participate in Physical Education lessons with a specialist teacher. Lessons are weekly and are 30 minutes in length.
Students in Years 1 to 6 have swimming/ aquatic activities in terms 1 and 4 (except year 1 students who only do swimming in term 4, and year 2 who only do swimming in term 1). More information on swimming below.
Sport
The major aims of sport at Kawungan State School are enjoyment, maximum participation and skill development. Interhouse carnivals for cross country and athletics are conducted in both Early Phase (1-3) and Middle Phase (4-6) divisions. Our interhouse swimming carnival is conducted in the Middle Phase (4-6) only.
Our school has four sporting houses. Magpies, Seagulls, Hawks and Eagles. Students are allocated sporting houses in family groups by administration staff.
School teams compete in the Hervey Bay Zone gala days which are conducted at various times during the school year. More information found in the Hervey Bay Zone Gala Days section.
Swimming / Aquatics
School based swimming lessons are held in terms one and four. Students are first introduced to swimming in Year 1, term 4. All swimming sessions are conducted by our physical education teacher and qualified swimming instructors from the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre. Teachers will distribute class notes, consent and medical forms prior to the commencement of lessons. Our school swimming program seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of our students in order to increase participation in safe aquatic activities.
